Three Youths Arrested for Karama Assault

Three male youths aged 14, 16 and 17 have been arrested in relation to an incident that occurred on Friday night.

It is alleged that the three males, in the presence of another, were collected in a taxi from a residence in Gray at around 11:00 pm and were taken to Karama Shopping Centre.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Pollock said the youths fled the vehicle, refusing to pay the fair.

“Two males aged 33 and 43 witnessed the incident and approached the youths in an attempt to get them to pay the driver,” said Senior Sergeant Pollock.

“The youths turned on the two men and assaulted them with rocks and bottles. Both men were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital and have since been discharged.

“The three boys have been charged with a number of offences including aggravated assault and armed with an offensive weapon at night and have been remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Youth Justice Court tomorrow Tuesday 6 September 2011.”

One youth remains outstanding and Police investigations are continuing.
