Taxi Driver Assaulted Darwin

Members from the General Crime Section are investigating an assault that occurred on a Taxi driver last night.

Detective Sergeant Chris Board said that the 26-year-old Taxi driver received a laceration to his head as a result of the assault.

“It is believed that the unknown offender got a taxi from the Beachfront Hotel in Nightcliff and asked to be driven to Anula,” said Detective Sergeant Board.

“Once on Driffield Street, he stated that he had a knife and threatened the driver whilst demanding cash.

“A struggle occurred between the two before the offender fled the scene. He then returned and continued to demand cash.

“The 26-year-old victim was conveyed to hospital to receive treatment for his injuries.”

The offender is described to be aged in his early 20’s with short curly dark hair. At the time of the incident he was wearing black shorts and white sneakers.
