Taxi driver assault - Alice Springs

A man will face court after allegedly assaulting a taxi driver in Alice Springs overnight.

The 27-year-old taxi driver drove to the Alice Springs Police Station in Parsons Street after a passenger allegedly became violent and assaulted him while he was driving. Police were alerted after the taxi driver parked in front of the station with the passenger still on-board.

The passenger was arrested after the taxi driver told police he had been punched in the face a number of times and hit on the shoulder with a bottle. The passenger also allegedly damaged the taxi’s windscreen.

The 32-year-old offender was charged with:

     2 counts of criminal damage

  • Aggravated assault
  • Armed with an offensive weapon at night
  • Resisting police
  • Possessing a dangerous drug.

The man was remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.
