Nhulunbuy Police and Major Crime Detectives are currently investigating the death of a woman in Nhulunbuy overnight.

Police were called at 3:30 am this morning after a member of the public located the deceased on a dirt track near Banyan Street.

At this stage it is not known how the woman died.

Major Crime Detectives and Forensic Investigators are currently travelling to Nhulunbuy from Darwin to conduct further investigation into the death.

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour in the area or who may have further information in relation to the incident, to contact police on 131 44 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 222.
