Suspicious Death - Katherine - Update #2

Detectives from the Major Crime Division are continuing with investigations into the suspected murder of 41-year-old local Katherine man, Mr Ray Niceforo.

Three men aged 19, 22, 24 have been arrested in relation to the incident and are currently in police custody assisting with the investigation.

Detective Superintendent Richard Bryson said Major Crime Detectives have been working tirelessly on this case since Tuesday.

“A very serious crime has taken place and a lot of Police resources have already been invested in finding the perpetrator. This crime is a particularly brutal homicide.

"We will continue to dedicate all necessary resources to ensure the matter is thoroughly investigated.

"Community input could change the course of the investigation and help Police establish the exact circumstances surrounding Mr Niceforo’s death.

“Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen or spoken to Mr Niceforo between Friday 21 October and Tuesday 25 October or anyone who observed or heard anything unusual in the vicinity of the unit complex at the corner of Victoria Highway & Quinn Street, during the same time period.

“We would also like to speak to anyone that observed any persons or vehicles at a small roadside clearing, approximately 12.5kms past the Katherine Hospital, along Gorge road towards Katherine Gorge, during that same period.

"I encourage anyone with information to contact Police, regardless of how insignificant the details may seem,” said Detective Superintendent Bryson.
