Stolen Vehicle Spotlights - Darwin

Police

Police are investigating the theft of numerous spotlights in and round the Darwin area since January this year.

There have been more than 20 reports of spotlights stolen from vehicles parked in both private driveways and public areas including car parks and boat ramps.

Acting Sergeant Nicholas Kronk of the Darwin Tactical Team said it appears that the offenders are targeting specific, more expensive brands.

"Offenders are either unbolting the lights from the bull bar mounts or cutting through wiring and removing them forcibly.

"I encourage all owners of vehicles with spotlights to park in well lit, secure areas wherever possible.

"If spotlights have serial numbers, owners should keep a record of it for identification purposes and report any theft immediately to Police.

"Anyone who is offered second-hand spotlights which they suspect may be stolen, or anyone who witnesses suspicious behaviour around parked vehicles should contact 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000," Acting Sergeant Kronk said.
