A 65-year-old man is in custody after he allegedly stabbed his sister multiple times with a broken bottle.

Police and ambulance were called to a unit in Lyndavale Drive just before 5am today. They found a 64-year-old woman had been stabbed to the legs and arm. She was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

The alleged offender was arrested and is expected to be interviewed later today.

Detectives from the Domestic Violence Unit are investigating.
