Speeding Driver Caught – Tiger Brennan Drive

Police

Police have apprehended a 33-year-old male after he was witnessed speeding on Tiger Brennan Drive yesterday.

Police were checking vehicle speed outbound along Tiger Brennan Drive at around 6:00pm yesterday when they witnessed the speeding motorist. It is alleged that the male on a Yamaha motorcycle was caught travelling at 187kms an hour in an 80km zone near Stoddart Drive in Bayview.

Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew Heath, Darwin Traffic Operations said that this will hopefully prove to motorists that it doesn’t pay to speed.

“It’s shocking that less than 24 hours after a vehicle was caught on CCTV travelling at 167kms an hour in a 60km zone in Casuarina, that Police have now witnessed this.

“With all the fatal crashes that have occurred on Territory roads recently, I would think that people would take care, however it seems as though some people don’t learn. This man was also caught doing 220kms an hour in a 110km zone two years ago.

“To reinforce the message that this is unacceptable, we will continue to patrol and target those who choose to risk not only their lives, but selfishly other people’s lives as well,” Acting Senior Sergeant Heath said.

The 33-year-old offender has been summonsed to appear in the Darwin Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday 7 September 2011.
