Significant Drug Seizure Darwin Airport

Police

Drug and Organised Crime Detectives in conjunction with Australian Federal Police have arrested a 35-year-old man in relation to the seizure of an estimated $400,000 worth of methamphetamine.

The man, a Darwin local, was arrested at the airport early this afternoon after arriving on a commercial flight from Adelaide.

Detective Sergeant Stephen Pfitzner from the Drug and Organised Crime Section has said the seizure was the result of an ongoing joint co-operative approach between NT Police, AFP and Customs.

“We have been targeting the trafficking of illegal substances through our airports to prevent these drugs falling into the hands of local drug dealers and onto our streets.”  Detective Pfitzner said.

“We believe this seizure will have a significant impact on the availability of methamphetamine locally and all agencies involved will continue to focus on those responsible for its distribution.”

The man is expected to be charged with one count of Possess Methamphetamine - Commercial Quantity with other charges pending after officers allegedly found the drugs stashed in his hand luggage.

He will face Darwin Magistrates Court early next week
