Members of the Major Crime Unit have arrested a 16-year-old male in relation to a sexual assault that occurred in Nhulunbuy last year.

In the evening of Wednesday the 14th of December 2010, a 23-year-old female was sexually assaulted after getting in to a car with the alleged offender.

Police were alerted to the incident after the victim made disclosures to her family that she had been sexually assaulted near the Nhulunbuy Golf Club. The victim is deaf and unable to talk.

Members from Katherine Investigations, Major Crime and Forensic Investigators travelled to Nhulunbuy to assist with the investigation which has lead to the arrest of the offender.

The 16-year-old male has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and aggravated assault.

He was later bailed to appear in Nhulunbuy Court on a later date.
