General Crime Detectives from Darwin are investigating the sexual assault of a 5-year-old child in Nhulunbuy last week.

The girl is alleged to have been assaulted in the early hours of Sunday 10 April 2011 at a private residence.

Detectives are calling for anyone who may have seen a person walking a brown or yellow dog around Nhulunbuy in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The person is believed to have been wearing a blue shirt and black or dark pants.
