Detectives from the Sex Crime Section are pouring every resource available into locating the offender involved in a sexual assault that occurred early this morning in Fannie Bay.

It is believed that a 31-year-old woman awoke to find an unknown male in her Banyan Street home at around 3:20 am.

It is alleged the offender threatened the victim with a knife and sexually assaulted her.

The offender stole various items, including the victim’s handbag, from the residence before fleeing the area.

Police were alerted and upon attending the scene, saturated the area with both car and foot patrols.

The offender is described as a dark skinned male, in his late teens – early 20’s. He has short dark hair, clean shaven, with a thin build and approximately 178cms tall. He was described as wearing a loose fitting light coloured singlet.

Police urge any one who may have witnessed any suspicious activity on Banyan Street early this morning to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
