Sexual assault arrest - Alice Springs

A 31-year-old man has been arrested in relation to a sexual assault which allegedly occurred in Alice Springs overnight.

Detective Acting Superintendent Travis Wurst said Police received a report around 10.30pm last night from a member of the public who advised they believed a woman was being sexually assaulted near the corner of Undoolya Road and Sturt Terrace.

“Police arrived and arrested the man at the scene. The 39-year-old woman was taken to Alice Springs Hospital by ambulance,” Det A/Supt Wurst said.

“A crime scene was established and  police are now calling for witnesses to the incident to come forward.

“We know there were a number of people who were driving in the area  who slowed down as they noticed  the man dragging the woman towards Wills Terrace. There were also some pedestrians in the area.

“We would like these people to call police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

The alleged offender is yet to be interviewed at this time.
