Sexual Assault - Alice Springs

Police

Police are investigating the sexual assault of a six-year-old girl which occurred in Alice Springs yesterday afternoon.

The child’s mother contacted police after being told of the attack by her daughter. The girl told her mother she had been playing in a park near her home in Gillen when she was assaulted by a 12-year-old boy.  An 11-year-old boy who witnessed the attack intervened and the girl fled on her bike but became lost.

A short time later the distressed child was found near  White Street by a Caucasian couple travelling in a white utility and they  took her to her home. Police were called after the girl told her mother what had occurred. The alleged offender  was arrested in the early hours of this morning. He is yet to be interviewed.

Police would like  to talk to the couple in the white utility who assisted the girl earlier in the evening and would like them to phone 131444.
