The six people aboard a boat that broke down near Quail Island arrived safely back in Darwin Harbour this afternoon, after being rescued by members of the Water Police Section.
Last night, Police were alerted to the boat in distress by the Rescue Coordination Centre in Canberra just before 6:30pm.
Sergeant Michael Read from the Water Police Section said the two adults and four children aboard the seven metre boat became stranded when their boat experienced motor problems.
“Because the boat was equipped with all appropriate safety and communication equipment, we were able to establish the passengers were in no immediate danger.
“Water Police Members set off at first light this morning to locate the boat and tow them back to Darwin. It was a straight forward and successful rescue, with everyone arriving safely back in Darwin at 1:15pm.
“This incident again highlights just how important safety and communications equipment on all vessels can be when you get into difficult situations,” Sergeant Read said.
