Police in Alice Springs are appealing for witnesses to a robbery which occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning near the Todd River.

The 21-year-old male victim told police he had been walking from the Casino to Gap Road through the Todd River just before 1am when he was approached by a group of up to six males. He was asked for a cigarette and when he told the men he didn't smoke they assaulted him. They then took his mobile phone and wallet containing $20 cash before running off.

The victim received bruising from being punched to the face.

Police said the offenders are described as being of Aboriginal appearance and in their mid 20s.
