Road Warning - Kulgera

Police

As a result of substantial rain and winds in the Kulgera region, Police are urging motorists to take extreme care on the roads.

Kulgera received substantial rainfall overnight and is currently experiencing heavy rain and strong winds which are affecting road conditions in the area. Motorists travelling on the Stuart Highway near Kulgera are urged to take extreme caution as there is currently a lot of surface water over the road and limited vision in some areas.

Flooding may occur on the South Stuart Highway between Erldunda and Marla as this 260 kilometre stretch of highway has recorded in excess of three inches of rain in the last 24 hour period and is still raining.

Unsealed roads in the vicinity of Kulgera including the access road to Finke Community via Kulgera and the Mulga Park Road are currently impassable to all traffic.

Brevet Sergeant Owen Auricht urged motorists to be vigilant when travelling in severe weather.

"Wet surfaces can be unpredictable; obstacles such as trees and other debris may also end up on the roads"

"We urge anyone travelling in the area to reduce their speed and to slow at flood ways and creek crossings to ascertain depth of surface water prior to crossing".
