Restored Police Bike Returns to Darwin

Police

The first Honda motorcycle used in service by the Northern Territory Police Force will return to Darwin today.

The 1967 Honda 350 Police Special was bought for $200 almost 20 years ago by Brenton Hollitt in Tennant Creek.

A stroke of luck had the motorcycle identified as the first Honda to be used by Police in the Territory.

Mr Hollitt set about rebuilding the bike and has undertaken a three-thousand kilometre journey from Adelaide to Darwin to help raise money for prostate cancer.

In a twist, a Police Officer who rode the Honda, recently retired Scott Mitchell, will accompany his old patrol bike into Darwin.

The keys will be handed over to the Acting Commander of Traffic and Specialist Services Bob Rennie, with the bike to be donated to the NT Police Museum and Historical Society.

“We’re happy to have this piece of history returned to us and we thank Mr Hollitt for his passion to restore the motorcycle and his generosity for donating it to the Police Museum.” said Acting Commander Rennie.

NB: Police will escort the 350 Honda from Coolalinga to the old Police Station next to the Administrators residence on the Esplanade, via Daly Street and Mitchell Street. The party is expected to arrive around 1330.
