Ram raid arrests –Alice Springs

Police

Two men will appear in court after allegedly using a stolen vehicle in a ram raid in Alice Springs at the weekend.

Police received a report around 4am on Sunday that a stolen red Mazda Bravo utility had been used to ram the front doors of the All Seasons Oasis in Gap Road. Offenders then allegedly stole a large quantity of alcohol before driving off. The vehicle was stolen from a residence in Battarbee Street earlier in the night.

About half an hour later the thieves allegedly kicked in the glass doors at the Shell Truck Stop in Dalgety Road and made off with mobile phones, Telstra cards, cigarettes and food, as well as removing a safe containing a large quantity of cash.

Later on Sunday morning a police patrol located two males matching the description of the offenders. The two men aged 20 and 22 were arrested and police located a large sum of money in one of the men's possession believed to be part of the proceeds of the Truck Stop unlawful entry.

The pair have been charged with numerous offences including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of unlawful entry and two counts of stealing.

They have been remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today. The stolen motor vehicle is yet to be recovered.
