Police are investigating the escape of a prisoner from the Low Security Cottages at the Alice Springs Correctional Centre yesterday.

Alice Springs Watch Commander Andrew Barram said 30-year-old Andrew Ashley was last seen at the cottages just after 10:00 pm last night. He was reported missing to Police at 12:30 am.

“Mr Ashley is described as being of Aboriginal appearance with a solid build and he was last seen wearing a prison-issue plain dark green T-shirt.

“We believe that he is not a danger to the community, however it is advised that he is not to be approached if sighted, and for Police to be contacted,” said Watch Commander Barram.

Police have issued a photo of Mr Ashley and anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
