Police Seize Drugs, Cash and Vehicle

Police

Drug and Organised Crime Detectives have arrested a 38-year-old South Australian male in relation to a large quantity of cannabis that was located in Emerald Springs on Saturday.

Detectives raided the Emerald Springs campsite at 2:00 am and located 13.64 kilograms of cannabis, concealed within a false floor of a vehicle’s roof-top tent.

Police seized the 4x4 vehicle and charged the man with possession and supply of a commercial quantity of cannabis.

Police later arrested a 29-year-old Darwin man at a local caravan park and subsequently located approximately $95,000 in cash and a small amount of cannabis at the mans residence in The Narrows.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Schiller described the seizure as significant.

“This was the culmination of a long running investigation into a reasonably well organised group. The cannabis was well hidden within a purpose built compartment within a tent affixed to the roof of the vehicle.”

“There were 30 cryovaced pound bags located, which would have a street value in Darwin of about $220,000 or double that in remote communities.

“Some excellent background investigative work by our Detectives has led us to not only identify the courier but the intended recipient as well.

“It would be fair to say that at the moment we have one unhappy camper and one very dissatisfied customer.”

Both men were remanded in custody and are to appear in Darwin Magistrate’s Court today.
