Police Conduct Simultaneous Raids to Seize Child Abuse Material

Police

The Northern Territory Police Sex Crimes Division executed simultaneous raids in Darwin and the Rural Area on Thursday morning, October 20.

The raids on homes in Stuart Park, Malak and Darwin River were the result of information received from a South Australia Police Operation, code named ‘Decimate’ which targets internet users that access websites that contain Child Abuse Material and paedophilic discussions.

Among the items seized by Northern Territory Police were personal computers, laptops, memory cards and mobile phones.

Over the last 3 weeks, a 64 year old male and a 40 year old male have been charged with possessing child abuse material.

Jo Foley, Superintendent of the Sex Crimes Division said targeting online predators and child pornography networks takes a multi jurisdictional and international effort,

“The world-wide web is exactly that, world wide and the Northern Territory geographical border has no relevance when it comes to targeting offenders accessing online child abuse material.

“Sharing information across jurisdictions is essential to successfully detect and arrest those involved in online child exploitation.” Superintendent Foley said.
