‘Planker’ arrested for multiple unlawful entries around Darwin

Police have arrested and charged a 34-year-old male in relation to a number of unlawful entries in and around Darwin

Members were alerted to an unlawful entry in progress at a residence on Houston Street Larrakeyah at 9:30am yesterday morning. They attended moments later and with the assistance of Darwin Traffic Operations Unit members, arrested the 34-year-old at the scene.

Investigations soon led to the discovery that this male had also been involved in numerous unlawful entries, including stealing a sum of cash from the Darwin Cinema on Saturday 4 June. It is alleged that he attended the cinema at around 11:30am. The CCTV captured showed the man 'planking' on the counter before he removed cash from the register and fled the scene.

Monday 6 June it is alleged that he attended the Melaleuca on Mitchell where he stole a set of keys. He then entered a room and stealing a number of personal items including a camera.

He was also involved in the unlawful entry that occurred at Dollars and Sense in the Darwin City Mall on Tuesday 7 June. He fled the scene with several mobile phones a sum of cash and personal items.

The male was charged with multiple counts of unlawful entry, stealing, trespass and property damage and was remanded in custody, appearing in the Darwin Magistrate's Court today.

Police would like to thank the quick thinking neighbour for calling through, leading to the arrest of the offender. Members of the public are urged to call 131 444 should they witness any suspicious behaviour in or around peoples homes or vehicles.
