Operation Thresher - Alice Springs

Police

Police arrested 35 people for a combined total of 69 offences during an operation in Alice Springs from October 1 - 17.

Superintendent Michael Murphy said Operation Thresher reduced the incidence of disorder, nuisance and anti-social behaviour within Alice Springs.

"The Operation also targeted crime hot spots and locations where anti-social behaviour is known to occur.

"During the Operation, Police took more than 330 people into protective custody, tipped out 844 litres of alcohol and issued 30 banning notices.

"Anti-social behaviour is almost always associated with the abuse of alcohol in Alice Springs. Police want to send a clear message that poor behaviour will not be tolerated and will be dealt with swiftly and consistently.

"35 people were arrested in relation to 69 offences including unlawful entry, unlawfully damage property and stealing.

"Police also conducted 38 Youth Conveyances and 75 Bailee Checks during the Operation. The main problems during the school holidays are usually anti-social behaviour and property crime, which is often caused by youth roaming the streets. This inevitably leads some young people into trouble, so an operation such as this helps to prevent the problems before they occur by proactive and targeted patrolling."

"The Alice Springs community have had enough of anti-social behaviour and crime in the town in which they live and so have we. Police will continue to conduct these types of operations and are committed to keeping the residents and visitors of Alice Springs safe," said Superintendent Murphy.

Anyone wishing to make a report to police should phone 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
