Operation Brandon –Tennant Creek

Police

Acting Superintendent Craig Barrett said Operation Brandon was launched in response to a recent increase in unlawful entries in the town.

"Since mid-April, 17 unlawful entries have been reported to police. This is quite a sharp increase and on that basis we decided to launch Operation Brandon to target this sort of offending," Acting Superintendent Barrett said.

The Operation began on Tuesday and on that day police arrested a 22-year-old man in relation to unlawful entries at the Eldorado Motel and Tennant Creek Hotel . He has been charged and convicted of numerous offences including two counts of unlawful entry, two of stealing and one of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

"This offender was a visitor from a remote community. We have reason to believe that most of the recent unlawful entries are being perpetrated by out-of-towners who have come in for the recent football carnival."

A/Superintendent Barrett said Operation Brandon would continue until further notice and further arrests are expected.

"This type of offending will simply not be tolerated and offenders need to be put on notice that they will be caught. Also we would ask anyone with information to call Tennant Creek police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000."
