NT Police Officer – Suspended and Summonsed to Face Charges

Acting Commander of the Ethical and Professional Standards Command, Bruce Porter advises that a 27 year old male Police Officer has been suspended from duty today.

“An investigation commenced following a report of an alleged assault of a person in Police custody by the Officer in an Alice Springs public place on Thursday 18 August 2011.

“While the internal investigation remains underway, the Officer has been suspended from duty today in accordance with the Police Administration Act.”

“The Officer has also been summonsed to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on Tuesday 31 January 2012 to face the criminal charge of Aggravated Assault.”

“There is no further identifying information or details available while the internal investigation continues and the alleged criminal matter is now before Court."  Acting Commander Porter said.
