NSW Donate General Purpose Dog

Police

'Beno' the newest member of the NT Police Dog Squad, is a three-year-old German Shepherd and also part of a litter of puppies produced by 'Amber' who was handled by Brett whilst he worked with the NSW Police.

Senior Constable David Young will be the new handler as his current dog, six-year-old 'Prowler' will soon be retiring from Police duty.

"This dog is full of energy and ready to go. He will be a great addition to the NT Police Dog Squad team. He's been trained as a General Purpose Dog, but also to search off lead for offenders or missing persons and continues searching until he has located human scent. Upon finding this, he is trained to then sit and bark.

"I look forward to working with him and we will be heading off to Alice Springs soon to begin work together" he said.

Senior Constable Amee Meredith also received a posthumous award for Brett's service within the NSW Police Force.

"Brett would be really proud of this moment. Not only is he being recognised for his work within the NSW Police Force, but life has come full circle and one of his puppies has now grown up and will serve as part of the NT Police Force" she said.
