Non suspicious death Darwin

Police

NT Police are investigating the death of a taxi driver in Brinkin this morning on behalf of the Coroner.

Police received the report just after 5:40 am and on arrival they observed a taxi next to a tree on Dripstone Road.

Members of the public removed the male driver from the taxi and administered first aid until St John Ambulance arrived, but he died at the scene.

Traffic Enforcement and Specialist Services Command, A/Commander Bob Rennie said initial investigations suggest the death of the 46-year-old man was not the result of a road crash.

“The initial report received by police was that of a motor vehicle crash, after examination of the scene it would appear this is not the case.

“The cause of death is a matter for the Coroner to determine and until such time, this death is not classified or recorded as a Territory road fatality.

"While a preliminary investigation remains underway, Police do not believe the death to be suspicious," said A/Commander Bob Rennie

The road toll for the NT remains at 23 compared to 32 for the same time last year.
