Motorcycle crash - Darwin

Police

A 19-year-old man sustained severe head injuries and remains in a serious but stable condition in the Royal Darwin Hospital after crashing his black Honda CBR 600RR in Nightcliff yesterday morning.

A patrolling Police vehicle came across the crash at approximately 8:30 am and immediately provided fist aid assistance to the man.

Darwin Traffic Operations, Acting Sergeant Andrew Jamieson said initial investigations suggest that the motorcycle was travelling north along Banksia Street near the intersection of Palm Street when the rider lost control for reasons unknown.

“The motorcycle has clipped the curb of the road causing the bike and rider to fall. The bike and rider then slid alongside a pine log barrier adjacent to the roadway for approximately 20-25 meters, before coming to a rest at the intersection of Banksia Street, Palm Street and Casuarina Drive.

“The rider was wearing a full face helmet and we don’t believe speed was a contributing factor in the crash.” Sergeant Jamieson said.

Investigations are continuing.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the motorcycle crash to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
