Motor vehicle crash - Fisherman’s Wharf - Francis Bay Drive

Police

Two men are lucky to not have been seriously injured last night following a motor vehicle crash in Darwin.

At approximately 12:14 am, police received a call of a motor vehicle crash that resulted in a vehicle hanging slightly over the edge of Fisherman's Wharf.

It is alleged that a 41-year-old man got into his Toyota Hilux in an attempt to move his vehicle but accelerated forward hitting an industrial bin. He then attempted to move the vehicle again and hit a parked vehicle, narrowly missing the 45-year-old male owner who was sleeping beside the car. The Hilux then came to a stop on top of the wharf railings.

The driver climbed out of his vehicle before police and fire and rescue arrival.

Fire and rescue members successfully pulled the vehicle in to safety.

The driver returned a positive blood alcohol content reading and was taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital with minor injuries. He was released early this morning and will face court at a later date in relation to charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with high range blood alcohol content and driving with undue care.
