Motor home fire near Katherine – Witnesses sought

Police are investigating a motor home fire that occurred 40km’s south of Katherine this morning.

At around 11:00 am this morning it was reported to Police that a motor home located at a road side camping ground near the King River Station turnoff, was fully engulfed by flames.

Detective Sergeant Andy Bedwell said that Police and Fire and Rescue crews attended and extinguished the blaze, however the fire had completely destroyed the vehicle, valued at around $320,000.

“I urge anyone that may have been camping in the area around 1 km south of the King River turnoff to contact Police on 131 444 or Katherine Police directly on 89738029,” said Detective Sergeant Bedwell.

“In particular we’d like to speak to the owners of two vehicles, a station wagon and a sedan that were seen camping in the area and believed to be carrying between six to eight people of European or Irish descent.”

 Investigations are continuing.
