Missing trio found – Alice Springs

Police

Police used GPS co-ordinates from a mobile phone to find three girls missing after they went for a walk in the bush and became lost at the weekend.

Police received a report from one of the girl's mothers just after 7.30pm on Sunday. The woman told police her 16-year-old daughter rang her on her mobile phone to say she and two friends were lost in scrub off Kurrajong Drive.

The girl and her two friends aged 17 and 18 had gone walking in the bush earlier in the afternoon and had become disorientated. When they could not find their way back to the road one of the girls used a mobile phone to call for help.

Police rang the mobile phone and asked the girl to locate the GPS co-ordinates, which she did. A team of police then went into the area to locate the missing trio using those co-ordinates. The girls were found safe and well a short time later.
