Missing person -Barrow Creek

Police

Police are conducting and air and ground search for an 82-year-old woman who failed to return from a walk at her community near Barrow Creek.

Senior Sergeant David Chalker said Police were alerted by the woman’s family just before 10pm on Saturday after she failed to return to her home in the Tara Community.

“Family members told police the woman left the community around 3pm on Saturday to go hunting as she often did, however, when she had still not returned home by dark they became concerned,” Sen Sgt Chalker said.

“They spent a considerable time searching the area themselves but when they still weren’t able to locate her they contacted police around 9.45pm.”

“Her family tell us that she is very fit for her age and often walks long distances, however we are concerned for her welfare as she suffers from dementia.”

An extensive air and ground search of the surrounding area has been  mounted using police, NTES volunteers and local civilians as well as members of the Territory Response Group from Darwin. The search will continue today.
