NT Police have suspended the search for a 54-year-old crab fisherman who hasn’t been seen since Friday 2 September 2011.

NT Police were advised at about 9:30 am yesterday of the missing crab fisherman at Buckingham Bay, 120km west of Nhulunbuy.

Family members have informed Police that the man usually makes contact every second day and his last phone contact was Sunday 4 September 2011.

Police yesterday located a number of the man's personal items aboard his boat and pontoon.

Local police from Gapuwiyak, Elcho Island, Water Police, Elcho Island Sea Rangers and local fishermen conducted full scale air and water searches of the area and surrounding creek systems with the use of a helicopter and Police and Sea Ranger vessels over the last two days.

Senior Constable First Class Paul Veach said at this stage the search has been suspended; however, if further information comes to hand the search may be reinitiated.
