Marine Rescue – Point Fairweather

Police

Water Police with the assistance of several other agencies have rescued a 29 and 37-year-old late Sunday afternoon after the boat they were travelling in become lost.

Two vessels departed Murgenella Creek, attempting to travel to South Alligator River. The five metre dinghy lost sight of the larger vessel it was following, subsequently becoming lost.

Police were alerted several hours later when they were unable to be located.

Members along with Kakadu National Park Rangers searched for the men, locating them at Point Fairweather.

Acting Superintendent Brendan Muldoon said that this was yet another good example of why safety equipment is so important.

"Thankfully the lead vessel in this case had safety equipment, including a satellite phone, and were able to notify family members of what had happened.

"This could have ended very differently and all mariners must ensure that they have adequate communication equipment in the event that they become stranded or separated from the other parties.
