A 49 year-old-man has been rescued from his vessel at the Cato River Boat Ramp, Arnhem Bay, this afternoon.

At approximately 6.40pm yesterday, a member of the public in his own vessel, was alerted to a radio distress signal from another vessel, “Ocean Mist”.

He was informed that Ocean Mist was on the Gagora River, Arnhem Bay, heading to Darwin, and had a “Skipper Down”.

Ocean Mist is a 22 metre fishing vessel with 6 crew.  The man reportedly fell from a height of approximately 3 metres. 

Police were able to make contact via satellite phone at approximately 10.20pm, subsequently locating the vessel.

Members of the Nhulunbuy Police, Water Police, NT Fire and Rescue and St Johns Ambulance, as well as several other agencies, have all contributed to the man’s rescue.

The man is currently being treated for non-life threatening injuries by St Johns Ambulance, and is being conveyed to Gove District Hospital by St Johns Ambulance and NT Fire and Rescue.
