Man injured in traffic incident -Yulara

Police

A 28-year-old man was injured after he fell from a moving vehicle at Yulara last night.

Acting Senior Sergeant Stephen Constable said police received a report just after midnight that a man had sustained injuries after falling from the back of a camper van.

“It appears the man and his two companions were drinking at the Outback Pioneer until about midnight then decided to drive back to the camping grounds,” A/Sen Sgt Constable said.

“One of the group – a 28-year-old woman – got into the driver’s seat while the victim and another man, aged 32, climbed onto the step at the back of the Mitsubishi Express Campervan. They hadn’t gone very far when the victim fell from the step and sustained head injuries.

“He was taken to the Yulara Medical Clinic for treatment. Meanwhile police arrested the driver after she was found to be driving with a blood alcohol level of .069 per cent. She has been bailed to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on Tuesday November 29 to face charges of low range drink driving and recklessly endangering serious harm.

“The man appears to have escaped serious injury, however, it could have ended much more tragically. Once again the public should be reminded that excessive drinking can impair your judgement with potentially tragic results.”
