Man charged over bus assault - Darwin

Police

Darwin General Duties Officers have charged a 56-year-old man in relation to an assault that took place on a bus in the Darwin CBD yesterday.

Senior Constable First Class Chris Castle said that the man got onto the bus at the Cavenagh Street bus stop and sat next to a young woman at about 5:50 pm.

“The 20-year-old woman was already seated on the bus when the man approached her and allegedly indecently assaulted her.

“The woman alerted the bus driver, who in turn called Transit Security Officers.

“Transit Security Officers responded quickly to the incident and arrested the man, who was then taken away by Police.

“The man was interviewed this morning and has since been charged with aggravated assault,” said Sergeant Castle.
