Man charged over assault Alice Springs

A 24-year-old man has been arrested in relation to an assault that occurred in Alice Springs on Wednesday night.

It is alleged that at around 7:00 pm on 19 October, three young men were causing a disturbance in the Yeperenye Shopping Centre.

Detective Sergeant Jon Beer said two security officers attended and were assaulted as a result.

“The 48-year-old male was punched to the face a number of times, causing a fractured jaw and dislodging several teeth,” said Detective Sergeant Beer.

“The 20-year-old received an injury to the ear, believed to have been from a glass bottle.”

Police and St John Ambulance members attended the scene and located three males, two youths and a 24-year-old.

The 24-year-old has been charged with:

  • Assault causing serious harm
  • Aggravated assault
  • Armed with an offensive weapon at night
  • Stealing
  • Furnish a false name.

He was remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Court today.

The two youths were released pending further investigations.
