Kava Seizure - Nhulunbuy

Nhulunbuy police have charged a 21-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man in relation to drug trafficking offences over the weekend.

At about 7:30 pm on Saturday police acted on information received that passengers travelling from Cairns to Gove were possibly in the possession of Kava. Upon arrival at Gove Airport members conducted searches of the offenders luggage revealing a total of 76.5 kilograms of Kava.

The two offenders were arrested and conveyed to Nhulunbuy Watch House where they were charged in relation to the following offences and will appear in the Nhulunbuy Court on 01 February 2011:


Possess commercial quantity of Kava
Possess liquor in a prescribed area
Acting Superintendent Brendan Muldoon said police would continue to target drug smugglers.
