Investigations into child prostitute allegations – Alice Springs

Police

Superintendent Michael White said recent media reports alleged that girls as young as 13 were being encouraged into prostitution in return for alcohol.

"We take these allegations extremely seriously and detectives are currently investigating the situation," Supt White said.

" As part of this process, we are also reviewing whether or not there have been any breaches of the mandatory reporting requirements in regards to child abuse. The public should be aware that making reports to the media does not constitute mandatory reporting. The legislation is quite clear and requires immediate reporting to occur to Police or the Department of Children and Families. Anyone with information should phone 1800 700 250."

No charges have yet been laid over the recent allegations referred to in the press, however, investigations are continuing.
