International Blue Light Police and Citizens Youth Club Conference

Police

The Northern Territory Police will host the International Blue Light and PCYC Conference and at the same time celebrate 30 years since the inception of Blue Light Disco in the NT. The conference aims to bring people from all over the world together to share programs and ideas on youth engagement and crime prevention.

Over 100 delegates from every State and Territory will be attending along with international delegates from New Zealand.

To date, millions of young Australians have grown up with Blue Light Discos providing a social atmosphere free of alcohol, drugs and violence and where parents can safely send their children knowing they will be well supervised.

Since 1981 NT Blue Light has held discos in every major town and in almost every remote community across the Territory.

NT Blue Light also shares close ties with community groups such as Variety, YMCA, Red Cross, the Multicultural Council NT, NT Autism and Downs Syndrome Society, Darwin Community Arts, the Chung Wah Society, and numerous councils and sporting clubs.

Constable First Class Ward Tucker says it is fantastic to host the annual conference in Darwin for only the second time in the history of Blue Light NT.

“It's even better that it coincides with our 30th anniversary.

“This year we are looking forward to delivering some inspirational Key note presentations by Mr Henry Grey, Principal Leanyer Primary, Mr Peter Styles MLA and youth worker Mr Allan Brahminy.”  He said

The official opening of the 2011 conference will be at 10am tomorrow, 26th October, at the Mantra Pandanas Hotel, Knuckey Street Darwin.

The conference will close with a Black tie Gala Dinner at the Mantra Esplanade on the 28th of October, which will include an eclectic auction with proceeds going to Variety NT.
