House Fires - Edith Falls Region - Update

NT Fire and Rescue and Bushfires NT investigators have established the origin of a wildfire last Thursday.

The fire was believed to have been deliberately lit on Tuesday near Edith Falls Road.

Constable First Class Ray Neilson-Scott from the Northern Investigations Section said that the fire burnt for a number of days.

“On Thursday 18 August the fire burnt into a property north of Katherine destroying not only a number of structures, but also hundreds of hectares of land and causing over a million dollars worth of damage to one property,” said Constable First Class Neilson-Scott.

“Members from the Northern Investigation Section are continuing their investigation into this fire.

“We believe it may have been deliberately lit and urge anyone that may have seen any suspicious activity around the Edith River area along Edith Falls Road at around 3:50 pm last Thursday, to contact us on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
