Hooning - Alice Springs

Police

Two cars have been impounded by police after the drivers were reported hooning in Alice Springs this week.

Sergeant Conan Robertson  said it was gratifying to see that members of the public were being increasingly  pro-active in reporting hoons.

“In the first instance an off-duty police officer saw the driver of a Holden Rodeo Utility hooning on the corner of the Stuart Highway and Head Street,” Sgt Robertson said.

“The incident occurred around 12.30pm on Monday and the car was impounded this morning at the offender’s home in McRae Street. He will now have to pay a fine and wait 48 hours before the vehicle is released.”

Sgt Robertson said the second incident occurred yesterday morning on the corner of Kurrajong Drive and Undoolya Road.

“In this case a group of walkers reported the incident to  police after seeing the driver of Holden Commodore sedan doing burn-outs at the corner of the intersection around 10.30am. They identified the vehicle and the driver to police and again, the  car was impounded for 48 hours and the driver issued with a traffic infringement notice.

“These members of the public are to commended for their civic mindedness in reporting these incidents to police, and it is certainly a clear reflection that the community is sick and tired of having to endure such  juvenile and irresponsible behaviour.”

Anyone wishing to report hooning should phone police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
