Home and Property Security Darwin

Police

NT Police would like to remind members of the public to secure their property following a number of unlawful entries and thefts in the Darwin Region recently.

Acting Superintendent Michael Hebb of the Darwin Metropolitan Division said that with some extra effort by owners, we can prevent this from happening.

Over the last two weeks in the Darwin area, there have been six unsecured bicycles stolen and six unlocked homes unlawfully entered. There were also numerous items stolen from within nine unlocked cars and five reports of personal belongings being stolen after left unattended in open places.

“By implementing just a few simple steps we can make life difficult for these opportunistic thieves.

  • Secure your bike with a chain, or store it in a safe and secure place.
  • Lock your homes when no one is home and secure them at night time before going to bed.
  • Always lock your vehicle and ensure valuable items are not left in your car within view of others.
  • Ensure that you don’t leave personal/valuable items unattended in places such as clubs, pubs and other public locations.

“As they appear to be opportunistic in nature, a lot of these offences could be prevented by taking some precautions to ensure that the opportunity is not available for thieves to help themselves.

“Anyone with information regarding stolen property are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000” said A/Superintendent Hebb.
