Hidden Surveillance Device - Darwin

Police

After extensive investigations, the NT Police are calling for public assistance to help identify the location of footage found on a hidden surveillance device in Darwin.

Members from the Darwin Tactical Team are currently investigating the illegal use of a surveillance device that was located in an amenities block at a Darwin Tourist Park on 10 July 2011.

Police have released some images retrieved from the device that show two trucks, a number of cars, and a donga in an unidentified location where it is believed the person of interest sought was temporarily residing.

Darwin and Casuarina Division Superintendent, James O’Brien said Police have been conducting extensive investigations in an attempt to locate the owner of this device.

“Once this issue was brought to our attention the main focus of our investigation was the protection of the community.  Police notified local tourist parks immediately and have been investigating several lines of enquiry in order to identify a person of interest.  To date we have been unable to do that and now require assistance from the public to help identify some footage that was taken previously at an unidentified location.

“The images being released show a very distinctive international yellow dump truck, in what looks like a rural or commercial area.  It is not known whether this area is within the Northern Territory, however we are seeking public assistance in an attempt to identify the location with a view to opening up further avenues of enquiry.

“The placement of the camera appears to be haphazard, in that it was identified quite easily and swiftly brought to Police attention.

“The footage seized indicates the incident is contained to areas where the owner of the device has been residing and has not affected the broader community regarding general public amenities,” he said.

Police urge anyone that can help with identifying the location in the images, or anyone that may have further information in relation to the incident, to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
