Helicopter incident - Wadeye

Police

NT Police are currently in attendance of a helicopter incident at the Wadeye Airstrip.

Initial investigations suggest that at about 4:30pm, the rotor blades of the Super Puma hit a light pole, causing the helicopter to flip.

The pilot, two crew members, three passengers and a person in a nearby vehicle were assessed at the local clinic for minor injuries.

The Super Puma sustained extensive damage and a light aircraft parked nearby received minor damage.

Investigations will begin by NT Police and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Wadeye airstrip will remain closed until further notice.
