Fundraising For the Pensioners Christmas Party - Darwin

Police

The Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) are calling upon the generosity of the public as they begin fundraising for the 42nd Annual Pensioners Christmas Party.

NTFRS members will hit the streets from tomorrow, Thursday 10 November, with buckets in hand hoping to raise the money needed for the pensioners’ party.

The event was kicked off in 1970 and the first party saw a meagre 30 attendees; however over 500 senior Territorians are expected to attend the festivities this year.

Fire and Rescue Officers donate their own time for fundraising activities and also on the day to assist in making the event a success.

Organiser of the event, and Officer In Charge of the Jabiru Fire Station, Tex Tourell, said the event has become a true Territory occasion and is highly anticipated by many people each year.

“The Christmas Party is one of the highlights of the year for a lot of senior Territorians living in and around Darwin, and we can’t put on the event without the generosity of the public.

“We are hoping that the 42nd anniversary of the Pensioners Christmas Party is bigger and better than it has been in previous years.

“There will be great entertainment and enough food and drinks for everyone, plus a small present from Santa. Free transport to and from the party is also available for attendees,” he said.

The 2011 Aged Pensioners Christmas Party will be held from 11:00am on Sunday the 18th of December at the Kalymnos Club, Batten Road, Marrara.
