Fire Danger Index Reaches Extreme Levels

NT Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) advise that the Territory’s Fire Danger Index (FDI) has now reached ‘Extreme’.

David Ellis, Assistant Director Operations NT Fire and Rescue Service said the index has six levels that range from 0 – 100+ and today it has reached above 100.

“This is the first time the FDI has reached this level this year,” said David Ellis, A/Director Operations NTFRS.

No person shall light a fire or cause a fire to be lit in the open in the portion of the Northern Territory lying within the Northern and Katherine Fire Protection Zones.

NOTE: This includes the Darwin, Batchelor, Adelaide River, Pine Creek and Katherine Emergency Response Areas, including Litchfield and Coomalie Shires.

People should be extremely careful before undertaking any out door work that could cause an ignition.
