Fire Danger Index to reach Extreme Today

Police

NT Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) advise Top End residents that the Fire Danger Index (FDI) is projected to reach over 90 today, classified as ‘Extreme’.

District Officer Robert Trewartha said a total fire ban has again been declared due to the continuing conditions.

“The FDI reached 121 yesterday and is expected to peak over 90 today,” D/O Trewartha said.

“I would like to remind people that no person shall light a fire or cause a fire to be lit in the open in the portion of the Northern Territory lying within the Northern and Katherine Fire Protection Zones.

”This includes the Darwin, Batchelor, Adelaide River, Pine Creek and Katherine Emergency Response Areas, including Litchfield and Coomalie Shires.

“Members of the public are urged to maintain caution when operating machinery or equipment in the open.

“Please remain vigilant at all times and if you witness any suspicious behaviour, fire or even smoke, call triple zero ‘000’ immediately.”
